**NATIONAL GUARD MEMBERSHIP IS REQUIRED**: This is an excepted service position that requires membership in a compatible military assignment in the National Guard. Selectee will be required to wear the military uniform. Acceptance of an excepted service position constitutes concurrence with these requirements as a condition of employment. Applicants who are not currently a member of the National Guard must be eligible for immediate membership and employment in the National Guard in the military grade listed in this announcement.

### Responsibilities
As a AIRCRAFT PILOT, GS-2181-12, this position is located in an Army National Guard (ARNG) Army Aviation Support Facility (AASF) under the State Army Aviation Office. The primary purpose of this position is to pilot a variety of aircraft in support of the AASF operations missions.
(1) Pilots a variety of fixed wing twin engine airplanes and utility helicopters to transport passengers and cargo to and from a variety of points. Operates aircraft with short takeoff and landing capability, generally in good or fair weather conditions, but may include all types of weather, day and night over terrain such as forests, marshlands, mountain ranges, and open seas. Flights are to modern airports with paved runways, with navigational aids, good landing facilities and some unimproved or tactical landing pads and strips. Participates in all-weather search and rescue operations as required. Serves as a member of boards pertaining to aviation accidents, flight evaluation, collateral investigations, standardization and federal recognition.
(2) Maintains a Pilot in Command level of proficiency in an assigned aircraft.
(3) Performs other duties as assigned.

* Federal employment suitability as determined by a background investigation.
* May be required to successfully complete a probationary period.
* Must be able to obtain/maintain a Secret Security clearance. Awarded a current Single Scope Background Investigation according to Army Personnel Security Program Management Directives. Interim clearance may be granted.
* Participation in direct deposit is mandatory.
* Prior to appointment, an applicant?s military medical record must indicate a completed and current medical physical, flight physical, medical profile, and completed/cleared drug test.
* Possess a valid state driver?s license and qualify to operate government motor vehicles and vehicular equipment for ?Maintenance Purposes Only? according to Army Vehicle Maintenance Operations Directives.
* No record of claustrophobia or claustrophobic tendencies.
* To maintain the position - The incumbent must have a current Network License according to Army or Air Force Directives, Licensing Network Users and Certifying Network Professionals.
* May occasionally be required to work other than normal duty hours; overtime may be required.
* This position is covered by the Domestic Violence Misdemeanor Amendment (30 Sep 96) of the Gun Control Act (Lautenberg Amendment) of 1968. An individual convicted of a qualifying crime of domestic violence may not perform the duties of this position.

### Qualifications
***GENERAL and SPECIALIZED EXPERIENCE***:
Mandatory Qualification Requirements - Eligibility requirements for Dual Status technician positions in this occupation are based on the candidate's possession of Federal Aviation Administration pilot certificates -OR- appropriate military certifications, military ratings in the main-frame military aircraft of employment, and the required competencies (knowledge, skills, and abilities).
General Experience - An applicant must have a competent understanding of the occupation's basic principles and concepts. Applicants should have a minimum of one year on-the-job experience in the grade (or a comparable military rank) immediately below the next higher level.
Specialized Experience - Is experience that prepares the applicant to perform the Dual Status technician duties and responsibilities. To qualify, an applicant's educational-degree study program, military professional and technical training schools or academies, and aviation certifications may apply as substitutions for some specialized experience factors.
Preferred Experience - 5 years of Army aviation experience and 3-5 years experience in aviation unit administration and training duties.
MILITARY REQUIREMENTS
A military skill set is determined by the applicable service classification and qualification requirements. Upon selection, individuals are assigned to a compatible military skill in accordance with Army skill classification directives, statutes, and National Guard Bureau regulations. The Dual Status technician must obtain and maintain all military certifications OR Federal Aviation Administration certificates; current aeronautical ratings, medical and flight physical requirements, and qualifications for aviation service, military skill requirements in training, education, certifications, and experience. Specific requirements are found in the Army and Air Force classification references.

### Education
Army National Guard Warrant Officer Positions (GS-12) - Must have a high school diploma or general education development (GED) diploma. An undergraduate degree from an accredited college/university is optimum. Must have Federal Aviation Administration certifications awarded from accredited civilian aviation programs or must have aviation certifications from accredited military aviation schools.
Army National Guard Officer Positions (GS-12) - For Army National Guard Second and First Lieutenants must be actively pursuing an under- graduate degree with at least 90 validated credit hours in a specified program. For Captains and above, must have an undergraduate degree from an accredited college/university. A Graduate Degree from an accredited civilian academic college or from an equivalent professional military education school is optimum. Must have Federal Aviation Administration certifications awarded from accredited civilian aviation programs OR must have aviation certifications from accredited military aviation schools.
