The Oregon Parks & Recreation Department is currently recruiting for a Natural Resource Specialist 4 (Stewardship Operations Support Specialist) position within the Stewardship Section/Planning and Development Division, located at the department headquarters in Salem, Oregon.

+ There is currently one (1) permanent, full-time position available.

+ This position is represented by the Association of Engineering Employees of Oregon (AEE).

+ This recruitment will be used to establish a list of qualified applicants and may be used to fill future vacancies as they occur.

What you will do:

This position will provide leadership and professional technical expertise to Stewardship Section staff and Oregon Parks and Recreation Department (OPRD). This position will report directly to the Stewardship Section Manager and support several Stewardship Section programs. The position includes leading the Cultural Resources team, developing and implementing priority projects in collaboration with the Natural Resources team, providing technical expertise for the Scenic Waterways Program, and providing section-wide assistance for the Stewardship Section Manager.

+ A Bachelor's Degree in a relevant natural or cultural resource conservation or management field AND four years of experience in natural resources and/or cultural resources conservation, management and protection. At least two years of the experience must be at a professional level performing activities such as developing agency partnerships, managing projects, leading teams, developing contracts, and writing grants.

+ A Master's Degree in natural resources will substitute for up to one year required experience, but not for the two years at the professional level.

NOTE: Although not required, preference will be given to candidates who meet the Secretary of Interior Professional Standards for Archaeology, as per 36 CRF Part 61 Appendix A, including completion of at least a Master's Degree in Archaeology or Anthropology.


+ High level of experience and expertise in environmental projects with skills and abilities in both natural and cultural resource management.

+ Ability to coordinate and lead teams of experts to accomplish project and program priority goals and objectives.

+ Skill in practices relating to conservation, preservation, and protection of archaeological, cultural and historic sites.

+ Skill in practices relating to conservation, preservation and restoration, rehabilitation of natural and scenic resources.

+ Excellent verbal and written communication skills.

+ Skill and experience in partnership building and collaboration with diverse staff within and outside the agency.
